YAML to Properties Converter
Convert application.yaml to application.properties for Spring Boot and Quarkus.
How to convert application.yaml to properties
- Pick Spring Boot or Quarkus to match how keys with dots are written.
- Paste your
application.yamlorapplication.ymlon the left. - Choose how lists are written: indexed (
list[0]=a) or comma-separated (list=a,b). - Tick Escape non-ASCII if the file will be read as ISO-8859-1, then copy or download the result.
Example
A YAML block server: with port: 8080 nested under it becomesserver.port=8080. A list under app.hosts becomes app.hosts[0]=a andapp.hosts[1]=b. For Quarkus, a map key with dots such as io.quarkus underquarkus.log.category is quoted: quarkus.log.category."io.quarkus".level=DEBUG. The~ key turns back into a value on its parent key.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to multiple YAML documents?
Documents separated by --- are written as blocks separated by #---, the multi-document syntax Spring Boot supports in .properties files, so spring.config.activate.on-profilekeeps working. Quarkus reads one document per file, so the tool suggests %profile. prefixes instead.
How are values like on, 0x1F or anchors handled?
Values are converted the way SnakeYAML reads them in Spring Boot and Quarkus: on becomestrue, 0x1F becomes 31 and ~ becomes an empty value. Anchors, aliases and << merge keys are expanded, with explicit keys winning over merged ones.
Is my configuration uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so passwords and connection strings in your configuration stay on your device. Still, prefer environment variables or a secret store for real credentials.
