URL Encode / Decode
Percent-encode or decode URLs and query strings.
URL parts
How to use the URL encoder
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Pick the scope: Component for a single query value or path segment, Full URL for a whole address.
- Paste your text into Input; the Output updates as you type.
- When the input is a complete URL, its parts and decoded query parameters are listed below the tool.
Example
As a component, hello world & café encodes to hello%20world%20%26%20caf%C3%A9: the space, the ampersand and the accented letter are all escaped. As a full URL,https://example.com/search?q=hello world&lang=vi becomeshttps://example.com/search?q=hello%20world&lang=vi, keeping ? and &so the address still works.
Frequently asked questions
Component or full URL?
Component (encodeURIComponent) encodes every reserved character, including/ ? & = #. Full URL (encodeURI) keeps those characters and only encodes spaces, non-ASCII letters and other unsafe characters.
Why does + become a space?
HTML forms send spaces as + in query strings. Keep Decode + as space on for form data and turn it off when a literal plus sign matters.
Is my URL sent anywhere?
No. Encoding and decoding run entirely in your browser.
