How to use the QR code generator

  1. Type or paste a URL or any text. The QR code updates as you type.
  2. Pick an Error correction level. Higher levels survive more damage, such as a logo on top or a scuffed print, but make the code denser.
  3. Choose the Size of the downloaded image and, if you like, the colors.
  4. Press Download PNG for an image, or Download SVG or Copy SVGfor a vector that stays sharp at any size.

Example

The text https://tinydev.dev (19 bytes) fits in a version 2 code at level M: a grid of 25 by 25 modules, plus a quiet zone of 4 modules on each side, so 33 modules across. At 512 px each module is drawn 16 px wide, giving a 528 px image with crisp edges.

Frequently asked questions

Which error correction level should I use?

M is a good default for screens and clean prints. Use Q or Hfor codes on packaging, outdoors or under a logo, and L when you need to fit the most data. A code holds at most 2,953 bytes at level L and 1,273 bytes at level H.

Will a colored QR code still scan?

Usually, as long as the foreground is much darker than the background. Dark on light works with every scanner; light on dark codes or low-contrast colors may fail on some phones, so test before printing.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The code is generated in your browser and the images are drawn locally, so the text never leaves your device. The QR codes do not expire and do not redirect through any service.
