Diff Checker
Compare two texts and see added, removed and unchanged lines.
How to use the diff checker
- Paste the earlier version into Original and the newer one into Changed.
- The comparison appears below as you type: removed lines in red with
-, added lines in green with+, and unchanged lines in between, with line numbers from both versions. - Tick Ignore whitespace or Ignore case to hide changes that do not matter, and use Swap to reverse the direction.
Example
Original port: 8080 / debug: true / name: api against changedport: 9090 / debug: true / name: api shows - port: 8080 and+ port: 9090, with the two other lines unchanged. If the only difference were indentation, ticking Ignore whitespace would report the texts as identical.
Frequently asked questions
How does the comparison work?
It compares line by line with the Myers shortest-edit algorithm, the same one git diff uses, so it shows the smallest set of added and removed lines that turns one text into the other.
Why is a changed line shown as removed and added?
The diff works on whole lines. A line with any change counts as one removal plus one addition, just like in Git.
Are my texts uploaded?
No. Both texts stay in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
